The victims tragically died from smoke inhalation and thermal injuries,” said District Attorney Melinda Katz. Aliya has been denied bail in the case as of now.
Who is Aliya Fakhri?
Not much is known about Aliya as of now, but we know that she is a couple of years younger than Nargis, and was brought up in Queens, New York city. Her father, Mohammed Fakhri is Pakistani, while her mother Marie Fakhri is Czech. The two however, divorced when both Aliya and Nargis were quite young. Now, as per the latest news, Nargis and Aliya are estranged, and have not been in touch since 20 years. A close source told ETimes that Nargis too, only knows what everyone else does, and the two have not been in touch for over 20 years.
Coming back to the incident, a eye-witness was quoted saying, “We had to jump over it to escape. Star jumped over with me, but then she went back in to save Jacobs. It was an abusive relationship. She had told everyone before that she was going to burn his house down, that she was going to kill him. We just laughed it off. “
However, Aliya’s mother Marie was quoted saying, “I don’t think she would be killing someone. She was a person who was caring for everybody. She tried to help everybody.”
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced the indictment, alleging that Fakhri intentionally set fire to a garage on November 26, leading to the deaths of Edward Jacobs, and Anastasia Ettienne. The victims reportedly died from smoke inhalation and thermal injuries. If convicted, Aliya could face life imprisonment.
Fakhri was arrested on November 26 and indicted by a grand jury the following day. In addition to first-degree murder charges, she faces four counts of second-degree murder and charges of first- and second-degree arson.
According to reports on the NYPost, prosecutors allege that Fakhri arrived at the residence around 6:20 a.m., shouting, “You’re all going to die today,” before setting the structure ablaze. Jacobs was reportedly asleep on the second floor of the garage. Ettienne, who was on the first floor, attempted to save Jacobs after realizing the building was on fire, but was unable to escape the flames.
According to the report, the fire consumed the garage, trapping both victims and ultimately leading to their deaths.
Jacobs, a father of three, had reportedly ended his relationship with Fakhri over a year ago. His mother, Janet Jacobs claimed that Fakhri struggled to come to terms with the breakup. She told New York Post, “He’s been trying to tell her to leave him alone for the past year, but she wasn’t accepting the rejection.”
Jacobs leaves behind 11-year-old twin boys and a 9-year-old son.
